APFKR meets Kyrgyzstan national team players ahead of the 2027 Asian Cup: match-fixing, doping and working with agents

On 30 September 2026 in Bishkek, the Association of Professional Footballers of the Kyrgyz Republic (APFKR, the national players' union and a member of FIFPRO) met with national team players and, together with FIFPRO Asia/Oceania, surveyed 23 footballers about the upcoming tournament.

On 30 September 2026, at the Muras United training base in Bishkek, APFKR met with players of the Kyrgyzstan national team ahead of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup. The conversation was short and practical. We covered three topics that most often create risks for players at major tournaments: match-fixing, doping and working with agents.

As part of our joint work with FIFPRO Asia/Oceania (the regional division of the International Federation of Professional Footballers, FIFPRO), we also surveyed the players about the upcoming 2027 Asian Cup.

Match-fixing: silence is a risk too

A major tournament attracts the attention of more than just fans, including those who try to influence results. A player may receive an approach directly, through an acquaintance or through an "intermediary". We reminded the players that any such approach must be reported, not handled alone.

FIFPRO has a confidential app for this purpose, Red Button, which allows players to report attempts to manipulate a match. Players should know about this channel in advance, not look for it in the middle of a pressure situation.

Doping: responsibility lies with the player

The main principle of anti-doping rules is simple: the player is responsible for everything that enters their body. Not knowing what a supplement or medication contains is not a defence. That is why, before taking any medication or supplement, players should check its ingredients and clear it with the national team doctor.

Agents: check the licence and read the contract

Interest in players grows ahead of a tournament, and offers arrive more often. We reminded the players of the basics:

  • work only with an agent who holds a FIFA licence;
  • any representation must be set out in a written contract, which you must read before signing;
  • do not sign documents under time pressure ("the offer is valid today only");
  • if in doubt, show the document to an APFKR lawyer first.

What this means for APFKR and players in Kyrgyzstan

The Asian Cup is the biggest tournament for the national team, and attention on its players grows in every sense. That is why the meeting took place before the tournament, not during it: decisions about match-fixing, doping and agents should be made in advance, calmly and with a clear understanding of the rules.
